How to use a multiplication chart
Put a finger on the row for the first number and slide across to the column for the second number: 7 × 8 is where row 7 meets column 8, which is 56. Then point out the patterns: every row is a skip-counting sequence, the chart is symmetrical along the diagonal because 7 × 8 = 8 × 7, and the 5s always end in 5 or 0.
A chart is a support, not a crutch. Once a fact feels easy, cover it up and see if your child can still remember it. Filling in the blank chart from memory is a great way to see which facts are solid. For a plan, read the fastest way to learn the times tables or our guide to teaching multiplication.
On a screen, try our interactive multiplication chart: tap any square to light up its row and column. Each table also has its own page, from the 1 times table to the 12 times table.
