Why we made Mathing

Math facts are the building blocks of everything that comes later in school, and they take practice. We wanted that practice to feel like a treat instead of a chore, without the ads, timers, streak pressure and tracking that come with many kids' apps. So we built an amusement park: four rides for the four operations, five carnival booth games, and a plush prize for every level, hosted by Toco the Toucan.

What we believe

• Kids should never “lose” at learning. No timers, no game-over screens. Mistakes are information, and missed facts simply come back later.
• Pictures before symbols. Early levels show counting dots so even four-year-olds can reason their way to the answer.
• Small steps in the right order. Levels follow the sequence most U.S. schools use, from sums to 5 up to the 12 times table and division facts.
• Privacy is not optional. No ads. No tracking. Your child’s info stays on the device, and the game works offline. Read our privacy policy.
• Grown-ups deserve clarity. A simple report shows what is mastered, what is still being learned and what needs practice.

How we write our guides

Our math guides for parents are written and reviewed by The Mathing Team. We follow a few rules:

• Grade expectations are checked against the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, which most U.S. states use. Where states differ, we say so.
• Every worked example and practice answer is checked. Visuals like ten-frames, number lines and arrays are drawn to match the math exactly.
• We don't invent statistics, studies, quotes or reviews. When we mention research, we link to the source, such as the U.S. Institute of Education Sciences practice guides.
